From Campus to Care: SIU Graduate Pioneers Innovative Health Internship Program

From Struggling Student to Successful Leader: A Giving Journey
Brian Hawkins knows firsthand the challenges of being a college student. As a 1991 political science graduate from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he remembers the financial hurdles that can make pursuing higher education difficult. Now, as the president and chief executive officer of HHM Health—a thriving corporation with six locations across the Dallas area—Hawkins is turning his personal experience into an opportunity for current SIU students.
Demonstrating remarkable compassion and commitment to his alma mater, Hawkins has created an extraordinary program that offers current students like graduating senior Tori Slowick a unique blend of financial support, educational resources, and potential career pathways. His initiative reflects a deep understanding of the obstacles students face and a genuine desire to help the next generation succeed.
By bridging his professional success with his educational roots, Hawkins exemplifies how personal experience can inspire meaningful change and support for emerging professionals.
